What lies outside of cookie-cutter neighborhoods and “Suburbia?” Where do the retired hippies and rebels live? They live in a mushroom house near Rochester, a spinning dome of a home in New Paltz, or a Guitar-shaped house in Georgia. These homes pay tribute to hobbies, interests, and old TV shows and literature (like Dick Clark’s Flintstone-inspired home or the Hobbit home in Vermont). But owning a piece of strange real estate comes at a price– many of the homes are priced at over $500,000. With more and more people putting their (strange) interests both inside and outside the walls of their home, one must wonder where these real estate ventures will go next: perhaps to Hogwarts!
