America’s Most Dangerous Cities

While the FBI reports that crime across the country has fallen 4% in 2011, it still remains a problem in these cities.? High poverty, high unemployment, and low median incomes are contributing factors to high crime rates; each of these cities, too, have had publicized budget crises and the result has been cutting civil services like police departments.? The FBI cautions against ranking cities by danger level, and says instead that their data points to specific needs in particular communities, each distinct from the other. Thus, our listing here only reflects what is published by the FBI and is not meant to rank one city over another:

5. Memphis, TN

4. Oakland, CA

3. St. Louis, MO

2. Detroit, MI

1. Flint, MI
