Where Did Americans Move in 2013?

A Migration study from Atlas Van Lines, one of America’s top moving companies, shows where Americans moved to and from in 2013. ?States indicated in blue had a higher number of moves into the state than out of the state, while yellow indicates just the opposite– the more residents left than came in. ?States in gray had a fairly balanced ratio of moves.

?Business incentives, industrial growth and relatively lower costs of living are attracting jobs and people to the Southeastern and Western states such as South Dakota, Colorado and Texas,? said Michael Stoll, economist, professor and chair of the Department of Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles. ?We?re also seeing continued migration to the Pacific Northwest as young professionals and retirees are drawn to amenities including public transit, green space and the local arts and entertainment scene.?

Sadly, the great state of New York is indicated in yellow– luckily, Western New York has gotten lots of fantastic news about development projects, so we hope that the state will turn blue over the next few years!
